Maryland Launches Business Permit ‘Fast Track’ Program

Governor Martin O’Malley announced the launching of the state’s ‘Fast Track’ program last Thursday, June 30, 2011 at an executive order ceremony. In an effort to promote the growth of state businesses, the ‘Fast Track’ program will expedite the Maryland business license/permit process for local businesses.

Governor O’Malley described the importance of the program saying, “We want to make sure businesses don’t drown in red tape on their way to creating more jobs.”

The Fast Track program will speed up the review of business permits/licenses for businesses who either create a large number of local jobs or who have a significant economic impact in redevelopment areas.

State officials have been working the past couple of years to simplify the legal process of developing new businesses and expanding existing ones. As the Governor explained, we’re doing that with the Fast Track and Maryland Made Easy programs, “Simplifying and streamlining the business licensing and permitting process – not just in specific agencies, but across our entire State government.” The state has created a website for this purpose, called Maryland Made Easy.”

State officials will monitor the timeliness of permits approved by the Fast Track program to ensure the program’s continuous speed advancement.
