Mundelein Officials close down Insufficiently Licensed Auto Repair Shop

Village officials have revoked the Mundelein business permit of First Midwest Automotive for conducting repairs that aren’t covered by his conditional use permit.

Bahadin Jabali, the owner of First Midwest Automotive had a Mundelein conditional use permit that allowed him to carry out minor repairs on cars. An undercover examination by state investigators found Jabali offering to buy and sell cars for cash and doing major repairs on cars, both of which aren’t allowed under the standard conditional use permit.

Repair shops conducting major repairs and buying and selling cars in Mundelein must obtain a part-scrap vehicle license and a used vehicle dealer license, respectively.

Additionally, one of the conditions for obtaining the conditional use permit required Jabaili to build a parking lot and roadside curb by his auto repair shop. Although Jabali had his shop open for a year already, he still has not begun to build the curb or parking lot.

Village Prosecutor Charles Smith said that the “Village and Illinois Secretary of State’s Office started investigating the business after receiving complaints from customers about the quality of work that was performed,” quoted in The Sun Times News.

State prosecutors arrested Jabali on April 21 and his court date is set for tomorrow, July 7. The shop has until the end of August to finish their repairs, sell their tools and close up.
