Nampa, Precious Metal Dealers Must Now Register for a City Business License

Due to a new ordinance passed by Nampa City Council, every local precious metal dealer will be required to obtain a city business license. City police will begin checking dealers for licensing compliance on July 1, 2011.

The city council passed this ordinance in an effort to retain greater control over stolen gold and silver objects sold to precious metal dealers. Included in the ordinance is a condition requiring dealers to wait up to 14 days before reselling precious metals they’ve acquired, giving the police time to trace stolen goods.

Violators of the above mentioned ordinance who continue to sell precious metals without obtaining a necessary license, can be prosecuted by the city.

“The licensing requirement does not apply to those who purchase gems and metals directly from a manufacturer, nor to pawnbrokers, hobbyists or people who operate solely at trade shows,” as quoted from IdahoStatesman.com.
