Fines to Increase for Insufficiently Licensed Trucks in Pennsylvania

State Representative Will Tallman introduced a bill to increase fines on out-of-state truck drivers who make deliveries without purchasing the required business license.

Current law requires out-of-state operators to procure a Class 20 license at a cost of $1,251. Until now, if caught without a license drivers were fined a mere $25.00. Maryland gravel truck drivers chose to break the law and risk paying the $25.00 charge rather than pay the costly licensing fee. New legislation would raise the fine to $1,000.00.

This legislation will primarly affect the areas along the Pennsylvania border which include Chester County, Franklin County, York County and Lancaster County. Also affected are towns, Lancaster, York, Glen Rock, Shrewsbury, New Freedom, Gettysburg and Hanover.

According to CBS21, 21 representatives are currently co-sponsoring House Bill 1458, many of whom are from counties near Pennsylvania's borders.
