Poulsbo to Change Business License Fee/Application Process

The city's finance committee has proposed some ways to change fees and applications for Poulsbo City business licenses. Licensing fees haven’t been changed in Poulsbo City for over 20 years.

The city currently charges $75 for a new license and $50 for annual license renewals. Proposed license changes would reduce the initial license charge to $71 and increase the annual license renewal to $65. Included in the changed business license fees is a $5 charge that will be earmarked for the Kitsap Economic Development Alliance.

Additionally, the city would like to streamline the licensing process by allowing business owners to apply for a city license at the same time they apply for a state license by using Washington’s Master Business Application process.

"We don't lose any of our approval process by doing this," City Clerk Jill Boltz said as quoted in Kitsap Sun. "The reports will come to us and we will still distribute the reports for licenses to the building department and fire department.  The nice thing is, for the businesses it will renew with their state business license. It's one place to do your licensing.”

The city hopes to approve these licensing changes by the end of this fiscal year.
