Prattville to go After Unlicensed Businesses

January 3, 2011

Prattville Mayor Bill Gillespie Jr. has released a warning to all local business owners of his intention to go after unlicensed businesses. His warning is aimed at owners of home-based businesses, many of whom run under the radar of city regulations.

"Some people may not be aware that they need a business license," he said. "In the coming year, we are going to be looking at our business licenses to make sure business owners meet the requirement.”

Montgomery Advertiser reports that business owners who are caught operating a business without a proper Prattville, AL business license will be slapped with fines and charges. The mayor has therefore warned business owners to come into compliance before being forced to.

"We want to give residents fair warning because if we find out they have been operating without a license, the city can seek license fees in arrears. That amount can be large depending on what type of business it is and how long it has been operating."

Business license compliance is mandatory on national, federal and local levels. Operating without proper state, county and city business licenses can cost business owners thousands in fines and penalties. Business owners are urged to take advantage of Business Licenses’ "Business License Compliance Package™"  which tells you exactly which licenses, permits, and tax registrations are required for your business, ensuring license compliance on every level.
