Town Pays $34,227 in Business License Court Case Fees

Town officials have been tied in a legal battle against a Muslim Sheik, Dawud Ahmad, for operating a homeless shelter without obtaining a Town of Springdale, WA business license.

The ‘homeless shelter’ under the auspices of a nonprofit organization called Muslim America, is currently housed in a 12’x16’ shed. Although the shed is hooked up to electric power lines, there is no running water or plumbing pipes available for the homeless dwellers. There is one sole occupant of the shelter who has been living in the outbuilding for 10 years.

The Spokesman Review reports the details of Ahmad’s infractions that have cost him two years worth of legal battles, “The town cited Muslim America for violating the building code and failure to get a business license.”

Considering the small size of the homeless shelter and the amount of people taking refuge in the hut, the town has been spending an enormous amount of money trying to convince Ahmad to come into compliance with business license regulations.
