Vienna Ice Cream Shop Owner Arrested for Failing to Renew Business License

Michael Paul Willis owner of Nielsen’s Frozen Custard, was arrested on Thursday for failing to apply for a 2011 business license and skipping meal tax payments for several months in 2010.

According to Police Officer Bill Murray, the town has tried numerous tactics to get Willis to apply for a business license and pay up his meal tax dues; arresting him was a last-ditch effort.

Erica R. Hendry reports for Patch, “Willis could face a $2,500 fine and one year in prison for each of his misdemeanor charges. The felony charges carry a prison sentence of one to 25 years for each charge, though a jury could reduce that to less than a year with a $2,500 fine.”

The ice cream shop will remain open while Willis settles his sentence with town officials.
