Enumclaw may Streamline Business License Process

Council members discussed the possibility of expediting the Enumclaw business license process by combining the state and city business license applications. Business owners would only have to submit one business license form, but they would still be subject to both state and city approval.

Applying at one place is not only convenient for business owners; it would also save the city approximately 100 hours in staff time each year. Council members, however, are concerned about a number of measures that would come along with streamlining the licensing process.

In order to avoid confusion by license applicants, businesses outside of Enumclaw who do business inside the city would have to obtain a city business license. Currently, businesses that don’t have a place of operation in the city aren’t required to obtain an Enumclaw business license.

Costs for the license would reflect the state’s business license laws which would force home businesses to begin paying the regular $50 business license fee instead of the $35 they were charged until now.

EnumclawPatch quotes Community Development Director Erika Shook saying, “She will reach out to businesses to get their input between now and November, when she hopes the change is made.”
