Town of James Island Business Licenses now Handled by Charleston County

The South Carolina Supreme Court decision on June 20, 2011 that the Town of James Island is unconstitutional has forced the town council to stop all services provided to residents and businesses alike.

Business owners can no longer obtain a Town of James Island, SC business license.

ABCNews4 reports that as of Thursday, August 4, 2001, businesses can apply for Charleston County business licenses instead.

"Charleston County Council wants residents to know that services will not be interrupted during this transitional period," said Charleston County Council Chairman Teddie E. Pryor, Sr. "I will reiterate what we said in a June 20, 2011 statement, which is that council promises the citizens that the county will deliver all necessary services to the people of James Island throughout this process.

The Town has stated that the Supreme Court’s decision will be further appealed.
