Unlicensed Cab Service Owner puts Drivers in Danger

December 28, 2011

Bob Bergh, the owner of Drivers On Call has put his drivers in danger of receiving fines and/or serving prison time because he has refused to follow through on all the requirements necessary for obtaining a Fergus Falls, MN business license.

Bergh decided not to take his drivers to the Department of Transportation to do the physicals required by the city prior to the issuance of a cab license. Bergh has called the physicals ‘outdated’ and as such ‘unfair and unnecessary.’ He sent a letter to the city council requesting a change in the ordinance that would abolish the physicals requirement.

His current business license expires at the end of the year and although council members have taken no step in changing the ordinance, Bergh hasn’t done his part in renewing his business license.

Fergus Falls Journal reports, “Drivers On Call owner Bob Bergh has said he’ll continue to run his cab service in 2012 whether he’s licensed by the city or not.”

The ones who would suffer for his obstinacy are his drivers as they can be cited for driving an unlicensed cab. Punishments for violating city ordinances can run up to $1,000 in fines and/or 90 days of jail time. The cabs can also be seized by the city for being involved in ‘illegal acts.’
